Promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship
The development of a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship is critical for the successful identification and commercialisation of intellectual property at UCD.
NovaUCD assists in the creation of this culture by recognising success and achievement in innovation and by increasing awareness of intellectual property and other commercial issues.
During 2007 NovaUCD in association with the UCD Michael Smurfit School of Business developed two accredited PhD modules in Innovation and Technology Transfer. These modules will be delivered during 2008 as part of UCD's Graduate Studies Structured PhD Programme.
The first module will focus on the entrepreneurial process in the journey from the identification of the innovative idea through to the launch of a successful business. The second module will cover the management process required to transform an innovative technology into a commercial opportunity or business proposition. This module will also detail the stages and processes involved in the management and and commercialisation of intellectual property.
Since October 2003, NovaUCD has arranged nearly 500 events to increase awareness of innovation, technology transfer and entrepreneurship among the next generation of innovators and campus company promoters. These events which are aimed at researchers, staff and students cover all aspects of commercialisation including intellectual property identification, protection, exploitation, commercialsation and new venture formation.
Speakers for these events are drawn from UCD, NovaUCD's sponsors, industry experts, successful entrepreneurs and technology transfer specialists.
NovaUCD is also an access point for industry into the University, so events are also targeted at industry and companies. Continuing Professional Development for Knowledge Transfer Professionals in industry and the higher education sector is a key area of interest and expertise at NovaUCD.
